UTSC Womens Only Hours

Women’s Programs offered by UTSC Athletics & Recreation, are open only to self-identified women or gender non-conforming people, including the staff members working in the facility.

What does privacy look like in these spaces?

Women’s Drop-In Fitness Hours take place in the section to the far right of the lower level Fitness Centre, where the curtain is pulled to provide privacy.
Women’s Drop-In Swim and Aquatics Programs take place in the Training Pool where the doors are closed and blinds are drawn to provide privacy.
Women’s instructional classes take place in the Studios and other program spaces, and we make every effort to ensure privacy.

We understand that self-identified women and gender non-conforming people face particular barriers when accessing programs related to physical activity, and we strive to ensure their safety and comfort in our programs and facilities.

Definitions
Gender Non-Conforming:
A person whose behavior or appearance does not conform to prevailing cultural and social expectations about what is typical for their gender. People who are gender non-conforming may or may not identify as trans.
Self-identified women: Includes cisgender and transgender women.  Want to learn more? Check out more terms here: http://www.the519.org/education-training/glossary

Why offer Women’s Programming?

Women’s Programs are targeted needs-based initiatives designed to ensure equitable participation in physical activity. The programs are aligned with University policies, guidelines and statements on equity, diversity and excellence.  While women currently constitute over half of U of T’s student body, they continue to be under-represented in most forms of physical activity. Women’s Programming aims to optimize participation, reduce barriers to being active, and foster inclusivity across culture, religion and ability level.
